After a Gap

Degree admission after a study gap

A break after 12th or during graduation does not usually close the door on a degree. Recognised open-university and distance-mode degree programmes are specifically designed for learners who cannot attend regular classes, and they are the most common route we recommend for students returning after several years.

Regular on-campus admission is sometimes restricted by year of passing or age for particular programmes, and professional degrees have their own conditions. If a route is closed for you, we will say so and show you the alternative that is open.

If your degree was left incomplete, bring your old records. Re-registration or credit transfer is possible at some universities — and where it is not, a fresh start in the right mode is usually faster than people expect.

Documents usually required

  • 10th and 12th marksheets and certificates
  • Graduation records for PG admission
  • School leaving / transfer certificate
  • Migration certificate, where the previous board or university issued one
  • Character certificate, where the institution asks for it
  • Photo ID, photographs, category certificate if applicable
  • Gap declaration, where the institution requires it
